As far as sock length and thickness are concerned, you should make sure the socks are a thin cotton/nylon or cashmere blend for wear with leather shoes and extend over the calf. You truly want to avoid ever having your bare leg exposed when in a suit and sitting down, as well as wearing thick socks that are meant to be paired with chinos or jeans, because both show that you are unaware of the difference between casual and dress socks.
Plain with no texture, it’s the most conservative. To ascertain sock quality and comfort, look for a flat seam across the toe.

White socks are either in the medical or for athletic, so don’t ruin your business or formal wear. It is distracting and unattractive for many reasons, so simply avoid it. Andy’s Powder tip: If you use talc in your shoe, make sure it's in the shoe and not in your sock. Putting powder in your socks traps the moisture there.
When you buy a pair of socks get two or three pair of the same style and color. When the sock monster, hides, stills and eat them , you’ll still have others to match. :-)))*
